Community Calls for Brett Robinson’s Immediate Resignation from Islip Planning Board

Brentwood, NY — Islip Forward and community advocates are demanding the immediate resignation of Brett A. Robinson from the Islip Town Planning Board, citing his past role in one of the most devastating environmental scandals in Long Island’s history.

Robinson, who was previously convicted in connection with the Roberto Clemente Park dumping scandal, was directly tied to the illegal disposal of over 40,000 tons of toxic construction waste — the equivalent of 1,100 truckloads — into Brentwood’s beloved community park.

The dumping left the park closed for years, stripping children and families of safe open space while poisoning the soil and air of a working-class community of color.

“Robinson’s continued presence in government sends a dangerous message — that you can betray the public’s trust, poison a community, and still be rewarded with power,” said Ahmad Perez, Founder of Islip Forward. “Our communities deserve better."

The Islip Town Board voted in June to appoint Robinson to a seven-year term on the Planning Board, even suspending its normal meeting rules to move the appointment through without public debate.

The decision has sparked outrage among Brentwood residents and beyond, who see the move as an insult to the families who bore the brunt of the dumping scandal.

Robinson must resign - immediately.
